Introducing FieldLink v7.1: Advancing Collaboration and Efficiency

Trimble FieldLink delivers simple, impactful functionality that drives immediate value for users in the field and office alike. The features and enhancements in the latest release of FieldLink version 7.1 are designed to streamline workflows, improve collaboration, and boost productivity.

What is FieldLink software?

At its core, FieldLink is a powerful tool that contractors use to accurately and easily translate designs from the office to the field, or to capture real conditions on site, analyze immediately in the field, and share back to the office to guide projects forward. By following purpose-built, construction-focused workflows, FieldLink makes data capture and working with 3D models in the field intuitive and easy.

FieldLink is built to help contractors get more out of their day by streamlining critical workflows, from construction layout to data capture. With 2D and 3D model support integrated into its foundation, FieldLink makes layout easy and efficient, reducing communication issues and helping field teams lay out directly from the design. For Quality Assurance (QA), it enables the capture of work in place and comparison against designs to validate construction quality using scanners or total stations. Additionally, FieldLink supports creating as-builts by capturing site conditions to report back to key stakeholders on current status, progress and completed work.

What’s New in FieldLink version 7.1?

Trimble FieldLink continues to evolve, delivering cutting-edge features and improvements to empower professionals in the construction industry. The latest version, FieldLink v7.1, introduces a host of new functionalities and enhancements designed to streamline workflows, improve collaboration, and boost productivity. Read on for a summary of the key benefits of this latest release.

Leveraging the power of Trimble Connect

Trimble FieldLink v7.1 leverages the power of Trimble Connect to provide seamless field to office integration—enhancing collaboration, data sharing, and the overall project efficiency for construction professionals. Every FieldLink Advanced subscription now includes access to Trimble Connect Business Premium allowing you to collaborate at the highest level with all of the functionality that Trimble Connect has to offer.

Eliminating button clicks: Time is of the essence on construction sites, and FieldLink v7.1 reduces unnecessary steps, allowing contractors to focus on the task at hand without the hassle of extra button clicks.

Making sharing scans easier: Efficient communication of fieldwork to stakeholders is pivotal. FieldLink v7.1 simplifies this process with full-color PDF reports and Trimble Connect, making it easier to share scans quickly and effectively.

Improving scan file transfer: Supporting more file types is crucial. FieldLink v7.1 includes LAZ export, providing a compressed version of the LAS file type (~90% smaller with no data loss), making it easier to save and share large data sets.

Key New Features

FieldLink v7.1 introduces Offset Line Creation, a feature that allows users to directly select a line of interest and create an offset line, saving valuable time in the field. Previously, creating offset lines required a separate workflow of creating offset points and joining them with a line. This enhancement is particularly useful for Layout Technicians, Site Engineers, and Quantity Surveyors, as it combines two workflows into one, significantly reducing the time and clicks needed to perform layout tasks, thereby enhancing efficiency and productivity.

Another significant addition is the ability to generate Inspection Reports. This feature builds on Enhanced Point Cloud Inspections, enabling users to create a PDF report from colored scan inspections. The report includes images of all views of the colored Scan Inspection along with a scale bar for reference. Field Engineers, VDC Teams, Quantity Surveyors, and Digital Engineers will find this extremely useful, as it reduces the need for extensive office preparation of quality assurance deliverables and expedites the sharing of construction status across various stakeholders. By exporting an intuitive, colorized inspection in PDF format, users can more easily share visuals of the quality and status of construction on-site, regardless of the technical ability of the stakeholders.

FieldLink v7.1 also introduces LAZ Export, a new scan file type that provides a compressed version of the LAS file type, approximately 90% smaller with no data loss. This enhancement is beneficial for Layout Technicians, Site Engineers, VDC Teams, and Layout Managers, as the LAZ file format significantly reduces storage space requirements and allows for more efficient sharing of large data sets, streamlining both field and office workflows.

Key Improvements

Several key improvements and bug fixes have been made in FieldLink v7.1. The Floor Analysis Visibility issue, where scan data covered the surface contour grid when using the Floor Analysis tool, has been addressed. Additionally, the Floor Analysis Report Error, where reports included points with no scan data, skewing the percentage in/out of tolerance, has been resolved. The mismatch in units of measurement between DWG exports and AutoCAD has also been fixed, and users can now create points on model rebar from IFC files without any issues.
