Can the solution measure lines and areas? Why it's important: AEC professionals are well aware of the need to make measurements of lines and areas in the field. It is important to understand the dimensions of what is being built, is going to be built or has been completed. Such a capability is necessary for checking and inspection purposes. Contractors can verify and prove what part of their work has been fulfilled from what remains. Engineers can verify provided measurements to make sure that their proposed solutions will fit, or can make measurements themselves to be aware of the area that needs to be done.. Does the solution allow the creation of designs on-site? Why it's important: During construction there is often a need for temporary works that involves creating a simple design. The design process usually involves visiting the site to see and understand the working area and its environment, and then going to the office to use a design software on the computer to create the proposed solution. Using AR for simple in-field design such as creating haul roads, trenches and building pads or visualizing different design concepts allows for savings in time and cost, while alleviating the difficulties in translating 2D to 3D data or imagining 3D data in real life. Can the solution be integrated with grading operations? Why it's important: Increased costs occur when construction machines such as excavators sit idle in the field waiting for designs for temporary works etc. These cost impacts can be reduced with in-field design capability that gets design data directly onto machines in the field. For users who support construction operations it is beneficial to invest in a solution that allows the smooth and fast transfer of data to such machinery.
