4. Improve efficiency
and productivity
With a shared understanding of the project,
teams can improve their design analysis
and detect system or workflow clashes
more easily—and before construction
begins. With additional capabilities like
taking photos, recording notes and
measurements, and assigning tasks to
team members, AR based systems can
shorten project timelines and reduce
rework and change orders, saving
money and time upfront and boosting
project productivity.
5. Extend BIM data to
the field
Instead of using 3D models only during the
planning phase, and 2D drawings onsite,
teams can bring the 3D model to the
worksite and refer to it throughout each
phase of construction, including post-
construction operations. AR maximizes
an organization's BIM investment by
increasing the versatility of and uses for 3D
data sets, ensuring greater accuracy and
reducing confusion at every step.
AR allows us to rapidly check and verify install vs design. It
gives us immediate confidence when we see the direct AR
overlays between the model and site build. Where there are
discrepancies, we can easily convey the issue along with
images to the appropriate people. The technology is much
quicker to use than traditional 2D drawings which might not
be to hand during a site walk. The Trimble AR app allows us to
leverage off the 3D models we already have and seamlessly
integrates them into the field.
