3 The technology behind these impressive outcomes is part of Trimble's interconnected ecosystem of software and hardware that's driving a larger trend called Connected Construction. Connected Construction, powered by Trimble's Construction Cloud, promises to transform the industry while driving new gains in productivity and profitability. For years, construction productivity has lagged behind other industries. Global construction labor- productivity growth has averaged just 1% a year for the past two decades, according to research from McKinsey. That's compared to 2.8% annual growth for the entire world economy and 3.6% for manufacturing. The reason for this productivity lag goes back to the way modern construction projects are executed. "It's like a giant 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, only in this scenario, a thousand different people are holding a different piece of the puzzle," said Jordan Lawver, Trimble's director of strategy and innovation for building construction technology. "You have all these folks who are responsible for a part of the whole, but their performance can have a direct impact on other people." Construction companies have attempted to use a disparate combination of hardware and software to connect the many moving parts, but they have yet to The Power of Connected Construction Technologies be very effective at doing so. That's largely due to the fragmentation of the various trades involved in a project, which creates data bottlenecks and silos. FMI reports that 96% of data collected in the engineering and construction industry goes unused. Four issues are driving the data problems, Lawver explained: • Inaccessible data. • Uncertainty about what to do with data. • Inability to build bridges between technologies. • Failure to make technologies easy to use and scale. Trimble's Construction Cloud addresses all four issues through intuitive technology that is easier to use and scale while giving all stakeholders the visibility they need to collaborate more efficiently. Keeping stakeholders connected throughout all phases of a project increases productivity by streamlining operations and preventing delays. The result: projects that achieve the best possible outcome for timing and budget.
